EMC VNXe System Log Collection (Unisphere / SSH)

VNXe service data contains system configuration and component logs. Collect it through Unisphere or SSH. The historical VNXe3100 archive name is similar to VNXe3100_service_data_SerialNumber_DateTime.tar; use the actual name generated by the system.

Method 1: Unisphere

  1. Sign in to Unisphere with an administrator account.
  2. Open Settings → Service System and enter the service-account password.
  3. Under System Components, select Storage System. Select Collect Service Information in Service Actions, then click Execute service action.
  4. If prompted about an existing collection, choose Yes to download it or No to collect fresh data. For a current incident, collect fresh data unless support requests the existing package.

Save configuration separately

The source also recommends Save Configuration on the same page. Select that action separately and provide the resulting file alongside the service-data archive when requested.

Method 2: SSH

  1. Connect to the VNXe management IP over SSH as service.
  2. Run the collection command and wait several minutes:
sudo svc_dc

After it finishes, list the generated files:

cd /EMC/backend/service/data_collection
ls -l

Use WinSCP, FileZilla or another supported SCP/SFTP client to retrieve the newest collection archive from that directory as service.
