HP-UX Server Log Collection (MP and getsysinfo)

Hardware fault analysis for HP-UX servers (Integrity / PA-RISC) requires MP (Management Processor) hardware logs and system configuration collected with the getsysinfo script.

Collect MP Logs

  1. Connect to the MP through its serial console or management network using Telnet/SSH, and enable terminal session recording.
  2. Under the MP main menu, enter command mode and execute df (to display FRU information), then select Display All:

    MP> cm
    MP:CM> df
(Select All / A when prompted.)
  3. To view event logs, return to the main menu and enter sl (Show Logs), then review both the System Event Log and Forward Progress Log.

Collect System Information Using getsysinfo

  1. Obtain the getsysinfo.sh script from HP Support, upload it to the server's /tmp directory (alternatively, create a new file on the server using vi and paste the entire script content into it).
  2. Grant execution permissions and run as root:

    cd /tmp
    chmod 744 /tmp/getsysinfo.sh
    ./getsysinfo.sh
  3. When the script finishes, retrieve /tmp/sysinfo.tgz and send it to technical support.
