Dell M1000e Chassis CMC and I/O Module Log Collection
The Chassis Management Controller (CMC) records PowerEdge M1000e chassis hardware logs. Collect each blade server’s TSR separately through its own iDRAC. Save CMC command output using terminal session logging over SSH, or the Windows telnet -f method shown below.
Collect CMC Logs
- View the CMC IP address on the front panel LCD of the chassis.
Log in to the CMC web page via a browser and enable Telnet under Network → Services (or log in directly using an SSH client).

English localization of the legacy CMC Services screen; menu wording can vary by firmware.
Open Command Prompt in a writable location. The
-foption records session output:D:\> telnet -f d:\cmc.log 192.168.1.100After logging in to the CMC, execute the following commands in sequence:
racdump # CMC summary: versions, status and logs getsysinfo # Chassis system information getversion # Module firmware versions getmodinfo # Presence and health of chassis PSUs, fans, IOMs and blades getioinfo # I/O module information getdcinfo # Blade and I/O module interconnect checks getraclog # CMC log getsel # Chassis hardware event log (SEL) gettracelog # CMC trace log- After all output is complete, enter
exitto exit, and sendd:\cmc.logto Technical Support.
Collect I/O Switch Module Logs (PowerConnect M Series)
Ethernet switch modules in the chassis (such as PowerConnect M6220 / M8024) record sessions using the same method; after logging in, execute:
E:\temp> telnet -f M1000eSwitchlog.txt <SwitchModuleManagementIP>
console# show system
console# show running-config
console# show vlan
console# show ip interface
console# show spanning-tree
console# show interfaces status
console# show logging
console# show switch
console# show stack-port
console# show stack-port counters
console# show stack-port diag
console# exit
The running-config file may contain encrypted passwords for accounts; these lines can be removed as needed before sending the logs.
Run the commands before the # markers; the text after them explains each command. Use the command names supported by the installed CMC or switch firmware.
