LSI/Broadcom RAID Controller Log Collection (StorCLI/PercCLI/MegaCLI)
LSI / Broadcom MegaRAID RAID cards and their OEM models (Dell PERC, Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID, Inspur, etc.) can export controller information and firmware logs (TTY / termlog) using command-line tools. Complex failures related to the RAID card (drive drop, array degradation, foreign configuration, BBU / capacitor alerts) typically require these logs. Server-level logs (TSR, FFDC, one-click collection, etc.) generally already include RAID card logs; separate collection is only needed when valid RAID card logs cannot be obtained from the server-level logs.
| Tools | Applicable Controllers |
|---|---|
| StorCLI | LSI / Broadcom 9240 and later MegaRAID cards, Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID cards |
| PercCLI | Dell PERC 9 and later (H330 / H730 / H740P / H750, etc.) |
| MegaCLI | Older cards: Dell PERC 5 / 6 / H700 / H710, LSI 2108 / 2208 chipsets, etc. |
Tools can be downloaded from the RAID card or server vendor's support website (Windows, Linux, and VMware versions are separate). In the commands below, /c0 represents controller 0. If multiple cards are present, replace /c0 with /call or collect sequentially by the number listed in show .
StorCLI
cd /opt/MegaRAID/storcli
./storcli64 /c0 show all > show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0 show events file=mr_events0.log
./storcli64 /c0 show termlog > termlog.txt
./storcli64 /c0/bbu show all > bbu_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/cv show all > cv_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/dall show all > dall_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/eall show all > eall_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/eall/sall show all > sall_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/vall show all > vall_show_all.txt
./storcli64 /c0/pall show all > pall_show_all.txt
Cards without a BBU or capacitor (CacheVault) may show errors for corresponding commands; these can be ignored. For Lenovo servers' StorCLI collection methods, refer to the Lenovo Knowledge Base HT512617.
PercCLI (Dell PERC)
./perccli64 /call show all > show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call show events file=mr_events0.txt
./perccli64 /call show termlog > termlog.txt
./perccli64 /call/bbu show all > bbu_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/cv show all > cv_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/dall show all > dall_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/eall show all > eall_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/eall/sall show all > sall_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/vall show all > vall_show_all.txt
./perccli64 /call/pall show all > pall_show_all.txt
MegaCLI (for older models)
cd /opt/MegaRAID/MegaCli
./MegaCli64 -AdpAllInfo -aALL > MgAdpInfo.txt
./MegaCli64 -EncInfo -aALL > MgEncInfo.txt
./MegaCli64 -FwTermLog -Dsply -aALL > MgFwLog.txt
./MegaCli64 -PhyErrorCounters -aALL > MgPhyErrCnt.txt
./MegaCli64 -PDList -aALL > MgPdList.txt
./MegaCli64 -LDInfo -Lall -aALL > MgLdInfo.txt
./MegaCli64 -LdPdInfo -aALL > MgLdPdInfo.txt
./MegaCli64 -AdpBbuCmd -aALL > MgBbuInfo.txt
./MegaCli64 -AdpEventLog -GetEvents -f MgEvtLog.txt -aALL
On Windows, open Command Prompt as Administrator (on Windows 2008 and later, "Run as administrator" is mandatory), navigate to the tool directory, and execute MegaCli64.exe with identical parameters.
Correspondence between Dell model numbers and LSI chipsets, to assist in selecting the appropriate tool version:
| Dell Model | Chipset | Equivalent LSI Card |
|---|---|---|
| H710 / H810 | LSI 2208 | MegaRAID SAS 9265-8i |
| H700 / H800 | LSI 2108 | MegaRAID SAS 9260-8i |
| PERC 6/i, 6/E | LSI 1078 | MegaRAID SAS 8888ELP |
| PERC 5/i, 5/E | LSI 1068 | MegaRAID SAS 8408E / 8480E |
S100 / S300 software RAID and SAS 5/iR, SAS 6/iR, H200, and other HBA-type cards do not have TTY logs available for collection.
Using MegaCLI under VMware ESXi
- Download the VMware version of MegaCLI (ESXi 5.x uses a .vib package, ESX 4.x uses an .rpm package), upload it to the host using WinSCP, or create an ISO image, mount it via a virtual optical drive, and copy the files.
Enable SSH on ESXi, log in, install, and execute the collection command, for example:
esxcli software vib install -v /tmp/vmware-esx-MegaCli-8.xx.xx.vib --no-sig-check cd /opt/lsi/MegaCLI ./MegaCli -FwTermLog -Dsply -aALL > /tmp/perc.txt ./MegaCli -AdpAllInfo -aALL >> /tmp/perc.txt ./MegaCli -AdpEventLog -GetEvents -f /tmp/perc_events.txt -aALL- Retrieve the file generated under
/tmpusing WinSCP.
