EMC CX, VNX and Unity Log Collection
This guide covers three storage management interfaces: Navisphere for CX, Unisphere for VNX, and the Unity service interface. Use the procedure for the actual product and software version.
Before collection
The source’s Internet Explorer / Java 1.6 instructions describe a legacy management-software environment. Check the supported browser and Java combination for the installed release rather than treating that Java version as a requirement for every EMC product.
Ensure the workstation can reach the required management addresses. CX/VNX examples use the two storage-processor management ports; for a direct maintenance connection, place the workstation on the correct subnet. Unity uses its configured system management address.
CX: collect SP A and SP B
- Open Navisphere at the array management address and sign in with configured credentials. The source lists legacy
admin/passworddefaults. - Right-click SP A, select SP Collect and confirm.

- Allow collection to finish. The source estimates about five minutes; completion can take longer. A successful command-submission dialog does not mean that the archive is ready.
- Right-click SP A and open File Transfer Manager. Choose the newest completed ZIP, use Browse for the local destination, then click Transfer and check the transfer status.

- Repeat collection and retrieval for SP B.
VNX: generate and retrieve diagnostics
Sign in to Unisphere using configured credentials. The source lists admin/password and sysadmin/sysadmin as legacy examples; these are not guaranteed current credentials.

Open System and select Generate Diagnostic Files - SPA and the corresponding SPB action, confirming each:

Wait for the completed diagnostic ZIPs. The source estimates about five minutes; confirm completion by the generated files. Use Get Diagnostic Files - SPA/SPB, choose the newest *_data.zip by timestamp, select a destination and click Transfer for each processor.

Unity: collect service information
Sign in using the credentials configured during installation. Open System → Service:

On the Service Tasks tab, select Collect Service Information and execute that action. The menu also contains configuration, restart, reinitialization, password, shutdown and SSH controls; those are separate service actions.

In the collection window, click + to start a new collection if one has not started automatically. Wait for completion, select the generated file and use the download control to save it locally.
