HPE SimpliVity Log Collection

Collect an HPE SimpliVity support capture from the OmniStack Virtual Controller (OVC). The source example shows a SimpliVity OmniCube Accelerator II error in vSphere:

vSphere alarm: SimpliVity OmniCube Accelerator II error

Collect the OVC support capture

  1. Connect to the target OVC over SSH using svtcli or a vCenter administrator account authorized for OVC access.
  2. Run svt-session-start. Enter the vCenter IP, administrator username (for example administrator@vsphere.local) and password when prompted.
  3. Run svt-support-capture --nohost and wait for compression to finish.
svt-session-start
svt-support-capture --nohost

The --nohost option excludes the ESXi host support bundle. Collect that bundle separately when support requests host diagnostics.

Retrieve the capture

The completed command prints a download URL. This historical output retains the source’s illustrative IP placeholders, date and byte count:

......................
Compressing capture data. This may take a few moments...

Capture file can be downloaded from Virtual Controller web server.
Browse to http://X.X.X.X-IP/capture/Capture-X.X.X.X-IP--2018-09-13_03-01-41-MN.tgz 19004756 bytes

Use the actual URL returned by your command. If browser download fails, retrieve the new archive from /var/capture on the OVC with WinSCP or another file-transfer client.

If session startup cannot complete

In the source incident, an accelerator-card failure prevented svt-session-start from completing. The collection workaround was to skip session startup and run svt-support-capture --nohost directly. Follow the support provider’s guidance for your installed version.
