EMC Celerra NS / NX4: Collecting support_materials and SPCollect

EMC Celerra NS and NX4 unified storage combines a NAS gateway with a CLARiiON backend. Collect both the NAS-side support_materials package and the backend SPA/SPB SPCollect packages. Both procedures can be run from the Control Station CLI.

Collection Steps

1. Connect to the Control Station over SSH using an account such as nasadmin. Run su - when root privileges are required.

2. Collect NAS-side support materials:

   /nas/tools/collect_support_materials

   The script will sequentially collect server logs, configuration, Data Mover, and back-end information. Upon completion, it prompts for the zip file path; the file is saved in /nas/var/emcsupport/ , with a filename formatted like support_materials_<SerialNumber>.<Date>.zip.

3. Collect backend SPA / SPB SPCollect:

   /nas/tools/.get_spcollect

   The script will generate SPCollect for SP A and SP B sequentially and package them into a single SPCOLLECT.zip, saved under /nas/var/log/ . The entire process takes several minutes to over ten minutes.

4. Use a tool such as WinSCP to download the latest support_materials file from /nas/var/emcsupport/ and /nas/var/log/SPCOLLECT.zip to your local machine.

.get_spcollect starts with a dot, indicating it is a hidden script. Execute it directly using the full path as shown above. Re-running the script will delete the old SPCOLLECT.zip and regenerate it.
