Dell EqualLogic PS Series Diagnostic Log Collection
EqualLogic PS Series uses the Group Manager CLI diag command to collect internal array status and configuration. The output is encoded and split into Seg_1.dgo through Seg_n.dgo files stored on the member. The legacy tool describes its diagnostic output as excluding user information; the source also states that account passwords are excluded.
For this CLI procedure,
diagcollects data from the member to which you are connected. Connect to each member’s own IP address and run it for each member. A Group IP session may reach a different member. This differs from the Group Manager web wizard, which can select several members.
Run diag
Connect by SSH or Telnet to a network-interface IP address of the required member, or use a serial connection to Port 0 on its active controller. Sign in as
grpadminusing configured credentials.
Enter
diagand press Enter. After the prompt appears, enteryto start collection. The entire process takes a few minutes; occasional pauses in the progress bar are normal.
Upon completion, the system will display the IP address available for retrieving the files via FTP/SCP and ask whether to output the results to the screen (text capture). If FTP retrieval is available, simply press Enter (select n).

Retrieve .dgo files using FTP
In the Windows Explorer address bar, enter ftp://<MemberIP>, log in with the grpadmin account, and download all .dgo files:
English localization of the legacy FTP login example; use configured member credentials.
English localization of the legacy FTP file list. Truncated source timestamps and unreadable size units remain illustrative; download every generated .dgo segment.
If the Windows Explorer download fails, switch to the command line and ensure you use binary mode:
C:\> ftp 192.168.100.51
User: grpadmin
Password: ********
ftp> binary
ftp> mget *.dgo
ftp> bye
Other retrieval methods
- Email: When email notifications are configured on the array, diag sends each segment of data as plain text emails to the notification list (up to approximately 6 emails).
- Screen output: When both email and FTP are unavailable, first enable session logging in the Telnet/SSH client, then at the prompt enter
yto output the data to the screen. After the output completes, disable session logging; the log file is the diagnostic data.
Files generated by diag remain on the array until manually deleted or overwritten by the next diag execution.
The source’s few-minute duration is an estimate; Dell’s staff procedure allows up to about 15 minutes. Retrieve all generated segments from every required member into separate local directories. The numeric addresses above are examples. The legacy email limit and file-retention behavior described here come from the source and may vary by firmware.
