EMC Host Information Collection: EMCGrab and EMCReport
For host-to-EMC-storage multipath, HBA or LUN detection issues, support may request a host information package. The legacy tools are EMCGrab for UNIX/Linux and EMCReport for Windows. They collect configuration and diagnostic output; select the version and collection options requested for the host.
Earlier tutorials reference
ftp.emc.com. Obtain an OS-compatible package through Dell Support or your support contact rather than relying on the historical FTP location.
UNIX / Linux: EMCGrab
Download the corresponding EMCGrab package for your operating system (there is a separate tar package for AIX, HP-UX, Linux, SunOS, etc.), upload it to the host (e.g.,
/tmp), and extract it as root:cd /tmp tar xvf emcgrab_Linux_V4.1.tarNavigate to the extracted directory and run the collection script. When prompted with "DO YOU AGREE TO ACCEPT THE TERMS…", enter
Y:./emcgrab.sh- If you see "Directory /usr/emc not found, Please enter full path to emc directory", press Enter directly; subsequently, when asked for Service Request Number, Customer Name, Contact Person, Phone, Email, etc., you can press Enter to leave them blank.
- After displaying the "EMC GRAB IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION" summary, enter
Yto confirm and start the collection. - Upon completion, the screen will display the path of the output file. Retrieve this compressed file and send it to Technical Support.
Windows: EMCReport
Copy the downloaded EMCReport executable file (select the x86/x64/IA64 version based on your system) to the host, run it by double-clicking with Administrator privileges, and the command-line window will begin collecting data.

After collection completes, the output zip file is located in
C:\WINDOWS\EMCReports\collection\ZIPdirectory. The filename includes the hostname and collection date; send it to Technical Support.
