HP ProLiant Legacy Models: Collect Survey, IML, and ADU on Linux
Applicable Scope: Linux systems on older HP ProLiant G5–Gen9 models. For Gen8 and later servers, AHS logs should be downloaded via iLO whenever possible.
To collect Survey, IML, and ADU under Linux, the HP system management tools must first be installed. The dependencies between these tools are as follows:
| Package | Purpose | Mandatory |
|---|---|---|
| HP System Management Homepage (hpsmh) | Web-based management entry point; required for the graphical interfaces of ACU and Diagnostics. | Required |
| HP System Health Application and Command Line Utilities (hp-health) | Hardware monitoring and hpasmcli commands | Required |
| HP Insight Diagnostics Online Edition (hpdiags) | Collects Survey and IML; depends on the previous two tools. | Required when collecting Survey/IML. |
| HP Array Configuration Utility (cpqacuxe) or HP Smart Storage Administrator (hpssa) | Generates ADU array diagnostic reports. | Choose one |
Install Tools
# 1. System Management Homepage
rpm -ivh hpsmh-*.rpm
/etc/init.d/hpsmhd restart
# 2. System Health Application
rpm -ivh hp-health-*.rpm
/etc/init.d/hp-health start # If IPMI errors occur, restart ipmi, then restart hp-health
# 3. Insight Diagnostics
rpm -ivh hpdiags-*.rpm
# 4. ACU (or SSA)
rpm -ivh cpqacuxe-*.rpm # or rpm -ivh hpssa-*.rpm
Collect Survey and IML
Open a browser on the server itself and navigate to
https://127.0.0.1:2381, then log in to System Management Homepage using the system root account and password.
Click 'Webapps' at the top, then select 'HP Insight Diagnostics'.

On the Survey page, set View Level to Advanced and Categories to All, click Save. The report is saved as
survey.html(default location: Desktop).

Switch to the 'Log' tab, select 'Integrated Management Log', click Save, and save as
iml.html.

Collect ADU
First, start the ACU service from the command line; otherwise, the ACU entry will not appear in SMH:
cd /opt/compaq cpqacuxe # or run standalone: cpqacuxe -nosmhLog in to System Management Homepage, then click 'Array Configuration Utility' in the Storage section.

Navigate to Diagnostics, select the detected array controller (e.g., Smart Array P410i), then click 'View Diagnostic Report' or 'Generate Diagnostic Report'. If the browser blocks pop-up windows, choose Allow.

After the report is generated, click 'Save Report' to save
report-*.zip, default location: Desktop.
For HP SSA, run hpssa -local, then select HP ProLiant → Diagnose → Array Diagnostic Report → View Diagnostic Report and save the report.
Command-line method (when graphical tools are not installed)
# ADU report
hpaducli -f /tmp/adu-report.zip
# IML, DIMM, power supply, CPU and fan status
hpasmcli -s "show iml" > /tmp/hpinfo.txt
hpasmcli -s "show dimm" >> /tmp/hpinfo.txt
hpasmcli -s "show powersupply" >> /tmp/hpinfo.txt
hpasmcli -s "show cpu" >> /tmp/hpinfo.txt
hpasmcli -s "show fan" >> /tmp/hpinfo.txt
These are legacy package and service commands. Use packages supported by the server and installed Linux release. The source screenshots include an older ProLiant G4 example; they illustrate the legacy interface rather than a universal platform compatibility list.
