Oracle Sun Server and Storage Log Collection (Explorer / Snapshot / CAM)

Legacy Oracle/Sun diagnostics include Solaris host data and service-processor information. Use Explorer for Solaris, ILOM Snapshot or XSCF snapshot where supported, and the appropriate system-controller commands for the actual service processor. Sun storage arrays use CAM Service Advisor for support-data collection.

Solaris: Explorer

  1. Log in to the operating system as root and execute (this takes 10–20 minutes):

    /opt/SUNWexplo/bin/explorer -k -w all
  2. After completion, go to /opt/SUNWexplo/output/ directory (you can use ls -l to check the date) and retrieve the latest *.tar.gz file.

If Explorer is not installed, you can execute the following command and save the output as basic information:

uname -an; uptime; prtdiag -v; showrev
svcs -xv; fmadm faulty -a; fmdump -e
cfgadm -alv; iostat -En; iostat -e
metastat; metastat -p; metadb -i # SVM software RAID
df -h; mount; cat /etc/vfstab
dladm show-dev; dladm show-link; netstat -rn
cat /etc/release; dumpadm
cat /var/adm/messages

x86 Servers (ILOM): Snapshot

  1. Sign in to ILOM/SP using configured credentials. The source lists the legacy root / changeme default.

    ILOM Login Page
  2. When the front panel alarm light (amber) is still on, navigate to Maintenance → Snapshot, select Normal for Data Set, select Browser for Transfer Method, click Run, and save the snapshot file as prompted.

SPARC T Series (ILOM / ALOM): Service Processor Commands

Execute and save the output after logging in to the System Controller (SC):

showplatform -v
showsc
showsc version -v
showhost
showcomponent
showenvironment
showfaults -v
showfru
showlogs -v -g 0 -p p
consolehistory -v
shownetwork
showusers
showdate

SPARC M Series (XSCF): Snapshot and Commands

After logging in to XSCF, use snapshot to transfer the complete logs via SSH to a server (-L F indicates collecting all logs, -t specifies the user, address, and full directory of the target host):

XSCF> snapshot -L F -t <UserName>@<ServerIP>:/<FullDirectory>

Also save the output of the following commands:

showhardconf
showhardconf -M
showhardconf -u
shownetwork -a
showlogs -v error
showlogs monitor

Sun Storage Arrays: CAM Service Advisor

  1. Log in to the Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) web page, select the array on the left, click the Service Advisor button in the top right corner to open a new window.

Select an array in CAM and open Service Advisor
  2. In the left pane under 'Array Troubleshooting and Recovery', select 'Collecting Support Data', then follow the page instructions to collect and download the support data.

Command availability depends on the Solaris release, service-processor firmware and platform. The SPARC T-series list above is the source’s legacy SC command set; check the matching processor command reference. Oracle documents platform-specific Explorer collection sets, so confirm the desired collection with support before using the source’s broad -k -w all example.
