NimbleOS Release Types and Archived InfoSight Update Recommendations

This is an archived explanation for HPE Nimble Storage and Alletra 6000. Connect the supported array to HPE InfoSight to receive recommendations for that specific model, installed release and upgrade path. If it cannot connect, obtain the applicable offline package and instructions through HPE support; lack of connectivity does not make an arbitrary image suitable.

The source’s September 2022 text lists GA 6.0.0.500 and LTSR 5.2.1.900 / 5.0.10.100. The screenshots are older and show different recommendations. These numbers are retained as history, not current release or support advice. Check the actual array’s recommendations, release notes, upgrade prerequisites and support dates.

Release labels

LabelMeaningHow to read the archived source
IPRInitial Production ReleaseEarly production adoption. The source incorrectly expands IPR as Long Term Support Release. HPE’s 2017 release explanation says IPR is supported production code with restricted availability; GA is its recommendation for mission-critical use.
GACGeneral Availability CandidateA stage before GA in the source’s release cycle; not a blanket recommendation for every array. Check eligibility and release guidance.
GAGeneral AvailabilityBroad availability for compatible systems after HPE’s criteria are met. A GA label alone does not override a model-specific blocked path.
LTSRLong Term Support ReleaseThe source describes a maintained long-term branch, gives 5.0.x as an example and states at least two years of support. Confirm the actual published EOA/EOS policy and dates; this historical statement is not an ongoing entitlement.

The original describes IPR/GAC as normally unavailable unless enabled for selected arrays and advises against choosing them for critical workloads. Its wording about a universal deny-list is too broad: follow actual InfoSight eligibility and HPE guidance.

Locate the release list

In the source interface, open InfoSight → HPE Alletra 6000, Nimble Storage → Software Downloads. The localized historical image retains the complete release table and translates only the Chinese dates:

The table shows 6.0.0.300 as GA Candidate, 5.2.1.800 and 5.1.4.200 as General Availability, and 5.0.10.100 as Long Term Support Release. Its end dates include January 31, 2022 and July 1, 2022. Do not confuse these old entries with current availability.

Model-specific historical examples

CS215 / X8: current 5.0.10.0, with 5.0.10.100 offered as LTSR. The pictured 5.2.1.800 path has an AS-96135 “Unexpected error” indicator; the source says not to upgrade that model through that path. It is not evidence that every GA release is unsuitable for every X8 array.

CS3000 / X10: current 5.0.4.0. The historical page shows both 5.0.10.100 LTSR and 5.2.1.800 GA paths for that example.

HF40 / Gen5: current 5.2.1.300, with the historical GA recommendation 5.2.1.800.

6070 / Gen6: current 6.0.0.200. The pictured page says there are no software recommendations for this array; this describes the captured moment and does not establish that no later GA release exists.
