View NetApp ONTAP Licenses and License Status
ONTAP cluster CLI
Use an account with the appropriate cluster-administration privileges:
system license show
system license show-statusThe source also writes license show as a shorthand. The full documented command above is clearer across CLI contexts. Source {insert_element_...} strings are broken editing/citation artifacts and have been removed; they are not command arguments.
Filter the output
system license show -package <PACKAGE_NAME>
system license show -serial-number <SERIAL_NUMBER>
system license show -owner <NODE_OR_CLUSTER_OWNER>
system license show-status -status eval
system license show-status -status valid
system license show-status -status not-compliantReplace placeholders and choose the intended filter. The source’s system license show -node ... is corrected to the documented -owner filter; owner can represent node or cluster context. The three status examples are alternatives, not a literal brace/pipe expression to paste.
Original illustrative table
Serial Number: 1-80-000001
Package Type Description Expiration
----------------- --------- ---------------------------- ----------
Base node Cluster Base License -
CIFS site CIFS License -
SnapMirror eval SnapMirror 90-day Trial 2026-03-15
FlexClone capacity FlexClone License -This is the source’s illustration, not captured output from the reader’s cluster. Its Type column mixes terms such as node/eval with licensing concepts. In the checked command reference, license types include values such as license/site/demo/subscr/capacity, while status and scope are separate fields. Do not infer the entitlement or valid type solely from this sample, or interpret its 2026-03-15 trial expiry as current.
System Manager
- ONTAP9.8 and later: open Cluster > Settings, open Licenses, then inspect Features and the selected feature’s details.
- ONTAP9.7 and earlier: open Configuration > Cluster > Licenses and its Details tab. The source omits the Cluster level in this older path; it is included here from the official English guide.
Legacy 7-Mode
The source lists license and license show <feature_name>. These must not be assumed to share ONTAP9 grammar. Use the exact 7-Mode release’s command help; no full matching 7-Mode feature-query syntax was independently verified in this review.
Special cases
- ONTAP Select: the source uses
system license show-status -license select. Choose the actual licensable-package value accepted by the release (for example Select). This inspects licensing status; it is not a complete report of every capacity-pool usage/License Manager condition. - SnapCenter-related package: the source’s
license show | grep SnapManagerSuiteis replaced with the documented package filter:
system license show -package SnapManagerSuiteSnapManagerSuite is a historical package name. Verify the actual ONTAP/SnapCenter release and entitlement model rather than treating it as the universal name of every current controller license.
The source also points to the NetApp Support Site licensing-management area for purchased/assigned entitlements. Menu names and access depend on account permissions. Review expiration/status fields and renewal needs; a status query is not itself an alerting guarantee.
