SAS3IRCU Reference for SAS3008: Inventory, IR Volumes, Spares and Boot Devices

This is a stored command reference, not a script to execute in order. The source title mentions 3008IR/IT, but the RAID-volume operations require an IR-capable controller/firmware; an IT-mode HBA does not gain RAID creation capability merely by running SAS3IRCU. Use the matching vendor package, OS and firmware guide. All controller/volume/enclosure/slot numbers are examples. Creation, deletion, activation, consistency checks and boot changes require verification of the real target; noprompt suppresses confirmation.

I. Tool Download and Usage

1. Download Tools

Open the RAID controller page on the BROADCOM website (https://www.broadcom.com/support/download-search?pg=Legacy%2BProducts&pf=Legacy%2BProducts&pn=SAS%2B9311-8i%2BHost%2BBus%2BAdapter&pa=All&po=&dk=&pl=&l=false).

Click "Management Software and Tools".

Open the management software and tools list.

Download the SAS3IRCU version supported by the actual controller, firmware and operating system; do not select a newer incompatible package merely because it is listed first.

After extraction, obtain the toolkits for different operating systems.

2. Install Tools

The installation method for the SAS3IRCU tool varies under different operating systems. This section explains only Windows, Linux, and VMware. For other operating systems, refer to the "Readme" file in the software package.

Install the SAS3IRCU tool under the Windows system.

Upload the toolkit applicable to Windows to any directory in the server operating system (e.g., C:\tmp).

Enter cmd in the Windows Run dialog box and press Enter to open the command-line tool.

Enter cd <directory where the toolkit is located> in the command line, e.g., cd C:\tmp.

The SAS3IRCU tool under Windows does not require installation; at this point, you can execute RAID controller commands.

Install the SAS3IRCU tool under the Linux system.

Transfer the matching Linux utility using an appropriate file-transfer client (e.g., PuTTY-family PSCP/PSFTP); then follow its Readme and executable-permission requirements.

Enter the directory where the SAS3IRCU tool is located in the Shell interface.

The SAS3IRCU tool under Linux does not require installation; at this point, you can execute RAID controller commands.

Install the SAS3IRCU tool under the VMware system.

Transfer the supported VMware utility package with a suitable file-transfer client; /tmp is the source’s example staging directory.

Execute the esxcli software vib install -v=/tmp/vmware-xxx-sas3ircu.vib command in the VMware command line to install the sas3ircu tool, where /tmp/vmware-xxx-sas3ircu.vib must be the full path of the sas3ircu tool file.

Localized English documentation note marker The installation path for sas3ircu is /opt/lsi/bin. You need to enter this directory to execute RAID controller-related commands.
