Install Windows Server 2008 R2 Through BMC Remote Media

Archived OEM guide to installing Windows Server 2008 R2 through a Java BMC console. The source title abbreviates the OS as Windows Server 2008, but its selected ISO is Win2008R2_Enterprise_x64.iso. The figures illustrate console launch, virtual media and boot selection. The final figure only shows Windows loading files.

1. Open the remote console

Open the intended BMC in a browser and sign in with an authorized account. The English login figure is a clean instructional reconstruction with blank fields; source credentials are deliberately omitted.

Open Remote Control → Console Redirection (KVM), then select Launch KVM Java Viewer. The figure reuses an English localization of the same control layout from the related mounting guide; it is not a capture of this server. Use the client/runtime supported by the actual firmware.

The archived download dialog identifies jviewer.jnlp, 4.0 KB, from 172.16.1.13. Download only from the intended verified BMC, then use the supported Java Web Start workflow. The private IP is the source example, not an address to copy for another server.

The source Java warning reports an unknown publisher and a missing Permissions attribute in the JAR manifest. Its risk checkbox and Run highlight are preserved for historical context. They do not establish that the program or host is trustworthy; verify the application origin and resolve the trust issue before proceeding.

In JViewer, open Media. This original English example shows an existing Windows 98 command prompt, not a Windows Server 2008 R2 installer.

Choose Virtual Media Wizard from Media. Opening this menu alone does not connect a disc.

2. Attach installation and driver media

Use the CD/DVD Media area and Browse for the OS image. This particular source window already has the floppy image F:\raid.img connected; its CD/DVD area is still empty. It illustrates the controls, not an OS-disc connection.

In the file picker, select the verified Win2008R2_Enterprise_x64.iso image and choose Open. The source directory is server2008; that directory name does not change the ISO’s Windows Server 2008 R2 version.

Review the image in CD/DVD Media:1 and choose Connect CD/DVD when appropriate. The English path E:\OSImages\server2008\Win2008R2_Enterprise_x64.iso is an illustrative replacement for a Chinese workstation folder name; no workstation filesystem was modified. The Connect button still represents the pre-connection stage.

Illustrative English path before CD DVD connection

The next example shows Device redirected in Read Only Mode and a Disconnect control. Acknowledge the information as appropriate and confirm the actual media/session state. This notice is not an installed-OS confirmation; the same illustrative English ISO path is used.

Read Only redirection notice after CD DVD connection

If storage-controller drivers are required, make the correct driver media accessible through a supported redirection method or a locally attached device. The source illustrates physical-drive/HD-USB controls and separately shows a CD/DVD connection for F:\os\win2008r2for6805for2008.iso, a different image from the preceding example. Do not assume every device must be connected or that the separate figures are one continuous session.

3. Boot the installation image

At the actual POST prompt, use the firmware’s setup or boot-menu key. The source procedure uses Delete to enter Setup; the pictured shortcut prompt should be checked against the actual server.

Original English firmware shortcut prompt

In Boot settings, identify the virtual optical drive. The source dropdown contains both UEFI entries and the legacy-style AMI Virtual CDROM0 1.00 entry; the presence of other UEFI devices does not make this selected entry a UEFI boot.

Original English legacy AMI virtual CDROM boot choice

The source priority example places AMI Virtual CDROM0 1.00 first, an ASR-6805 RAID controller second and a virtual floppy third. Change boot settings only for the intended host and operation, save as required by its firmware and boot from the intended virtual media. These device names are source-specific examples.

Windows is loading files confirms that the boot loader has started reading installation files. It does not show installation completion. Continue with the Windows Server 2008 R2 installer and keep the required media session available until it is safe to detach.

English sources and scope

No matching English OEM QA or complete same-firmware image set was verified; the OEM English selector leads to its home page. Oracle’s English Sun Server X4-8 guides describe the same general remote-console and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation purpose, but use Oracle ILOM and different hardware. Their console screenshots are therefore not substituted for this JViewer workflow.

Six new English illustrations, one reused English control illustration and eight original English figures retain all fifteen source image references. No login, Java security change, media connection, BIOS change, reboot or OS installation was performed while preparing this translation.
