Inspur NF5688M6: Drive, OCP NIC, PSU, Fan and M.2 Replacement

This English written edition covers all five replacement topics in the original video collection. The corresponding manufacturer videos were recovered from the official NF5688M6 download page and checked against the matching model manual. The original page repeats the drive video; that duplicate is consolidated here. Chinese videos remain linked as source references. This edition provides written procedures and English figures; the videos have not been dubbed or relabeled as English.

Preparation

Use ESD protection, an antistatic bag and an approved replacement part. Match part numbers, or verify an authorized substitute before fitting a different number. Back up data, identify the actual component and follow the applicable service procedure. Keep the rack and chassis stable before withdrawing a drawer. Let hot components cool. The power button alone does not isolate all internal circuits: for OCP NIC and M.2 service, shut down and disconnect all server power cords.

The source describes hot-plug drives, PSUs and fans. That capability does not establish that removal is safe in the current configuration. Verify the actual storage, power and cooling conditions before live service; the procedure does not authorize simultaneous removal of multiple components.

1. Drive

Tools: antistatic bag and PH2 Phillips screwdriver.

  1. Locate the intended drive and back up its data.
  2. Press the carrier button. When the handle opens, withdraw the carrier horizontally. Record original slot positions when servicing multiple modules.
  3. Remove two screws per side. Retain all four screws, separate the drive from its carrier, and bag it.
  4. Unpack the replacement. Position its connector toward the carrier rear; tighten the four screws.
  5. Fully open the handle, slide the assembly into its original bay, and close the handle until locked.
  6. Check system operation after replacement.

2. OCP NIC 3.0

Power off and disconnect all server power cords. Disconnect the OCP network cables, recording their port assignments.

  1. Loosen the OCP thumbscrew. The video calls for a screwdriver on initial service; subsequent service can be tool-free.
  2. Withdraw the NIC and put it in an antistatic bag.
  3. Unpack the replacement, insert it into the slot and push until seated.
  4. Tighten the thumbscrew and reconnect the cables to their original ports.
  5. After reassembly, restore service power and check operation.

3. PSU

Identify the target PSU. Disconnect its power cable, let hot surfaces or blanks cool, and avoid disturbing neighboring components.

  1. Hold the handle, press the blue latch, withdraw the PSU and bag it.
  2. Unpack the replacement. Hold its handle and insert it into the matching bay until the latch engages.
  3. Facing the rear, left-side blue handles face upward; right-side handles face downward. The source identifies PSU0–PSU2 down the left column and PSU3–PSU5 down the right.
  4. Reconnect the serviced PSU cable and check system operation. The manual also calls for a steady green PSU indicator.
Localized manufacturer still: insert the replacement PSU in the matching orientation.

4. Fan

  1. Identify the intended fan. Hold its handle, press the latch and pull horizontally out of the chassis.
  2. Put the removed module in an antistatic bag.
  3. Unpack the replacement and confirm its bay. Facing the rear, the three rows run left to right: FAN0–FAN3, FAN4–FAN7 and FAN8–FAN11.
  4. Orient the blue mark toward the chassis left side. Insert horizontally until latched.
  5. Check system operation after replacement.

5. M.2 drive on the compute node

Power off, disconnect all server power cords, and use ESD protection.

  1. Loosen both node thumbscrews. Open and hold the locking levers; withdraw the node.
  2. Press both cover buttons. Slide the cover rearward, then lift vertically.
  3. Release the M.2 clip. Let the free end rise, withdraw at an angle, and bag the drive.
  4. Unpack the replacement. Match its key and connector; insert at an angle without force.
  5. Lower the card and secure its clip. Retain the original slot; for a single-drive installation, prioritize the silkscreened M.2_0.
  6. Align the cover studs with the chassis L-slots. Lower the cover and slide forward until locked.
  7. Align the node with its guides. Push gently to its stop, close both levers and tighten the thumbscrews.
  8. After reassembly, restore service power and check operation.
