IBM ESS (Elastic Storage System) Log Collection
ESS logs should be collected from the EMS management node. The following procedures are organized based on the IBM Storage Scale System 6.2.2 official troubleshooting documentation; for older ESS versions, first verify the esssnap help provided with that version, as additional parameters cannot be copied across versions.
Collecting EMS Logs
Log in to the EMS, confirm the current node and available space in the temporary directory, then execute:
/opt/ibm/ess/tools/bin/esssnap
Wait for the tool to finish, retrieve the log package using the path shown in the output: tar file: . The official example also provides a SHA256 file: verification file. Use the actual output path from this session.
If I/O nodes need to be included
The 6.2.2 documentation uses -N to specify nodes and collect corresponding gpfs.snap, essinstallcheck, and other information. Below are placeholder node names; replace them with the actual site-specific node names before execution:
/opt/ibm/ess/tools/bin/esssnap -N <IO_NODE_1>,<IO_NODE_2>
Pre-delivery Verification
Verify that the log package exists and has a non-zero size. Download the actually generated esssnap.*.tgz and verification files, and record the node range, ESS version, and incident time.
