IBM N Series Storage AutoSupport Log Collection and Inspection

IBM N-Series Storage AutoSupport Log Collection

Introduction

This document discusses AutoSupport log collection and inspection for IBM N-Series storage products.

Log Collection Section

Log in to the ONTAP 8 (7-mode) command line and enter the following command

ONTAP_name> options autosupport.doit now

Tue Aug 22 13:18:48 CST [ONTAP_name:callhome.invoke.all:info]: User triggered complete call home for USER_TRIGGERED (COMPLETE:now)

After waiting 5 minutes, locate the sequence number of the just-triggered AutoSupport, such as 1977:

ONTAP_name> autosupport history show

Seq                                    Attempt Last

Num   Destination Status               Count   Update

----- ----------- -------------------- ------- --------------------

1977

      smtp        sent-successful      1       8/22/2017 13:19:26

      http        ignore               1       8/22/2017 13:19:26

      noteto      ignore               1       8/22/2017 13:19:13

...

Based on the sequence number from step 1.2.2, repack the AutoSupport logs into a 7z file, such as fas8080cl1-cn_1977.7z:

ONTAP_name> autosupport history retransmit -seq-num 1977 -uri file:///mroot/home/http/fas8080cl1-cn_1977.7z

Info: Retransmit request queued. To check the status of the request, use this

command: system node autosupport history show -destination retransmit

      -seq-num 1977

Confirm that HTTP service is enabled on the storage system:

ONTAP_name> options http

httpd.access                 *

httpd.admin.access           legacy

httpd.admin.enable           on

httpd.admin.hostsequiv.enable off

httpd.admin.max_connections  512

httpd.admin.ssl.enable       on

httpd.admin.top-page.authentication on

httpd.autoindex.enable       on

httpd.bypass_traverse_checking off

httpd.enable                 on

httpd.ipv6.enable            off

httpd.log.format             common     (value might be overwritten in takeover)

httpd.method.trace.enable    off

httpd.rootdir                /vol/vol0/home/http

httpd.timeout                300        (value might be overwritten in takeover)

httpd.timewait.enable        off        (value might be overwritten in takeover)

Note: If httpd service is not enabled, configure it using the following command:

options httpd.access *

options httpd.enable on

options httpd.admin.enable on

options httpd.autoindex.enable on

options httpd.rootdir /vol/vol0/home/http

Access the storage management address via a browser and save the generated log file, such as fas8080cl1-cn_1977.7z:

IBM N-Series Storage AutoSupport Log Collection and Inspection

Note: For ONTAP 7 systems, after triggering AutoSupport, you can directly use rdfile to read the generated AutoSupport and print/save the command output.

1. Enter the command: Filer> options autosupport.doit XXXXXXXX (log creation time, e.g., >options autosupport.doit 202210260826)

2. Enter the command: Filer> priv set advanced

(Advanced mode must be entered to view the directory timestamps of all logs.)

3. Enter the command: Filer*> ls /etc/log/autosupport

(View all log directory timestamps to verify whether the newly created log timestamp has been successfully established.)

4. Enter the command: Filer*> rdfile /etc/log/autosupport/XXXXXXXXX.0 (e.g., 202210260826.0 captures previously created logs until collection is complete.)
