Reset Lenovo XClarity Controller to Factory Defaults with LXPM or Text Setup

This source shows first-generation XCC on a ThinkSystem SR630 with older LXPM/UEFI screens. A factory reset removes management-controller configuration, including network and credential settings in this illustrated workflow. It is different from Restart BMC. Plan how to regain management access before confirming the reset; the server restart needed to enter F1 setup can interrupt the host workload.

1. Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager

Power on or restart the server and enter the F1 setup menu. If both a power-on password and an administrator password are configured, use the administrator authorization to access LXPM. The source POST screen offers F1 System Setup:

In LXPM, choose UEFI Setup, then BMC Settings:

Select Reset Factory Defaults Setting. Do not select the separate Restart BMC action if the intended task is a factory reset:

At the confirmation, Enter continues and Esc returns to Setup Utility. Continue only when the reset is intended:

A subsequent message says the BMC restart-to-defaults command was sent successfully. Acknowledge OK. This confirms command submission, not that network recovery and login have already been tested:

The next message says BMC will be inaccessible for several minutes and instructs you not to make more BMC-setting changes during that time. Acknowledge OK and allow the operation to finish:

2. Text-based setup interface

Power on or restart and enter F1 setup. Use administrator authorization if both passwords are configured. This branch uses the text-based System Configuration and Boot Management interface:

Choose BMC Settings, then Reset Factory Defaults Setting:

Press Enter to continue, or Esc to return. The help text explicitly says the action restores management-controller settings, including network configuration and credentials, and restarts BMC automatically:

Acknowledge the successful-command-submission message. Then acknowledge the notice that BMC will be inaccessible for several minutes; wait without submitting further configuration changes:

3. Recover management access

In this source’s full-defaults example, the management IP configuration returns to DHCP. If the installation requires a static address, restore a valid address, mask and gateway through the supported local/network setup path. Use the factory login information supplied for the specific server, then establish the required managed credentials. Do not assume one shared factory credential applies to every model.

Match this behavior to the actual XCC generation and reset options. Lenovo documents settings-retention options on newer XCC2 firmware; an administrator can retain selected local-user/network settings there. The source’s older full-reset screenshots do not show those choices. A BMC factory reset does not reset UEFI configuration. Verify management connectivity, login and required settings after completion.
