Legacy BMC Java KVM on macOS: Black Screen and XQuartz
Reported problem
On the source Mac client, a BMC’s Java KVM opened to a black screen. Updating Java, modifying its policy file and adding trusted sites did not resolve the problem.
Case resolution
The source installed XQuartz. Its KVM then launched XQuartz automatically. The image shows the XQuartz icon immediately to the left of Java in the Dock:

Scope
The source attributes this client’s failure to a required X11 library that was no longer installed with macOS by default. Apple’s archived English X11 article points users to XQuartz for X11 server/client libraries.
The original labels its scope as all machines using KVM. That is too broad: verify the particular BMC viewer, supported Java/macOS combination and X11 dependency. Native/HTML5 consoles do not necessarily have this requirement, and installing XQuartz is not a general fix for every black KVM display.
