Linux Filesystem Directory Tree: Historical Reference Diagram

English localization illustration of the original directory mind map. It preserves the source’s root directories, the seven /usr children, the six /usr/local children and the nine /var children. Attribution is retained as Shiyanlou, shiyanlou.com and blog.csdn.net/u010447234.
This is a historical explanatory layout. Modern distributions may merge /bin, /sbin and /lib into /usr, use a top-level /run, and use different service/boot mechanisms. Directory names such as rc.d and the source’s service-script description must be read in that context; this diagram is not an exhaustive current Linux filesystem specification.
The English Filesystem Hierarchy Standard is a separate standards reference. Its site was access-protected during this review; the illustration translates the stored source rather than claiming to reproduce a retrieved official diagram.
