storcli64 Tool Operation Guide

1.1 Introduction

storcli64 can manage basic operations of LSIRAID cards; this document introduces commonly used commands for LSIRAID cards.

1.2 Basic Syntax

/c Controller value in the output result

/v RAID Number

/e Backplane value, EID value in the output result

/f External Configuration

/s Slot number, Slt value in the output result

1.4 Controller

View attribute syntax: storcli64 /cx show <properties>

For example, view buzzer status: strocli64 /c0 show alarm

Set a specific attribute syntax: storcli64 /cx set <properties>

For example, enable the buzzer: storcli64 /cx set alarm=on

1.5 Physical Disk

View disk health status, replace unhealthy disks, set disk status, initialize disks, and locate disks.

1.5.1 View Disk Health Status

storcli64 -PDList -aALL

For description information of each physical disk, focus on the following items:

Slot Number: Indicates the disk's slot position; you can infer if a disk is offline based on the Slot Number sequence. Media Error Count: Indicates potential disk errors, possibly bad sectors. If this value is not 0, pay attention; the larger the value, the higher the risk. Other Error Count: Indicates the disk may be loose and might need to be reinserted.

Predictive Failure Count: (Predictive Failure Statistics)

Firmware state: Indicates the disk's status and helps determine if the disk is damaged. The normal status is Online, Spun Up.

1.5.2 View Disks

View disk at Controller 0, Backplane 36, Slot 1

storcli64 /c0/e36/s1 show

View all backplanes and all disks on them for Controller 0

storcli64 /c0/eall/sall show

View detailed information for all disks on all backplanes across all controllers

storcli64 /call/eall/sall show all

1.5.3 Set Disk Status

Set disk status at Controller 0, Backplane 36, Slot 1 to good

storcli64 /c0/e36/s1 set good

Set disk status at Controller 0, Backplane 36, Slot 1 to offline

storcli64 /c0/e36/s1 set offline

Set disk status at Controller 0, Backplane 36, Slot 1 to online

storcli64 /c0/e36/s1 set online

1.5.4 Disk Initialization

If a disk has been used in other systems and is not clean, it needs to be initialized. Initialization will erase all data on the disk.

storcli64 /cx/ex/sx start initialization

Stop disk initialization

storcli64 /cx/ex/sx stop initialization

Stop locating

storcli64 /cx/ex/sx stop locate

1.6 RAID

1.6.1 Create RAID

Required parameters: RAID type, RAID size, RAID name, and included disks

storcli64 /cx add RAID r 0|1|5|6|10|50|60 Size=<RAID1_Sz>,<RAID2_Sz>,..|*all name=<RAIDNAME1>,drives=e:s|e:s-x|e:s-x,y;e:s-x,y,z

Example:

RAID5 created with default parameters: read policy is ra (Read ahead), write policy is wt, IO policy is direct, stripe size is 256

storcli64 /c0 add RAID r5 size=all name=diskarray01 drives=36:15-16,36:18

Configure read/write policies and stripe size for RAID5

storcli64 /c0 add vd r5 size=all name=diskarray01 drives=50:5-7,50:9 awb ra cached strip=256
ParameterValueDescription

nameMaximum 15 bytesRAID name
drivese:s|e:s-x|e:s-x,y:Valid enclosure and slot numbers: e = enclosure ID; e:s-x = slot number in enclosure.

wt|wbwt: Write through. wb: Write back. awb:Always
Write back when battery is present
Write policy, default is wt
nora|rara: Read ahead. nora: No read ahead.Read policy, default is ra

1.6.2 Hot Spare

Check disk status: storcli64 /c0 /eall/sall show Disk status UGOOD indicates idle disk; DHS indicates dedicated hot spare; GHS indicates global hot spare

Add dedicated hot spare

Obtain DGS number storcli64 /call/vall show View DG and DGS values to configure specific DG hot spare

Get idle disks storcli64 /c0 /eall/sall show Disk status is UGOOD

Syntax storcli64 /cx/ex/sx add hotsparedrive dgs=x

Example: storcli64 /c0/e3/s6 add hotsparedrive dgs=0 Create dedicated hot spare for DGS 0 using disk at backplane 3, slot 6

Add global hot spare

Check idle disks storcli64 /c0 /eall/sall show Disk status is UGOOD

storcli64 /cx/ex/sx add hotsparedrive

Delete hot spare disk storcli /c0/ex/sx delete hotsparedrive

1.6.3 Delete RAID

Delete RAID

storcli64 /cx/vx del

Example: storcli64 /c0/v1 del Delete the RAID with virtual device number 1

storcli64 /c0/v1 show all

1.6.5 RAID Cache Settings

Syntax for setting write cache: storcli64 /cx/vx set wrcache=wt|wb|awb

wt disables caching; wb enables write cache when the RAID card has no battery; awb enables write cache when the RAID card has a battery. Syntax for setting read cache: storcli64 /cx/vx set racache=nora|ra noraDoes not read content in the cache; ra reads content already in the cache first. Syntax for setting IO priority:storcli64 /cx/vx set iopolicy=direct|cached

Enable read cache

storcli64 /call/v1 set rdcache=ra

Enable write cache

Enabling write cache requires setting IO priority to cache first

storcli /c0/v1 set iopolicy=cached
storcli64 /call/v1 set wrcache=wb
storcli64 /call/v1 set wrcache=awb

Disable read cache

storcli64 /call/v1 set rdcache=nora

1.8 Exceptional Scenarios

1.8.1 Impact of Unexpected Power-off on Initialization

RAID0, RAID1, RAID5 (less than 5 drives), RAID (less than 6 drives), RAID10, RAID50, and RAID60 will not perform initialization again after reboot. RAID5 (5 or more drives) and RAID6 (6 or more drives) will stop foreground initialization and perform initialization in the background using the command storcli64 /c0 show bgi can be viewed

1.8.2 Hot Spare Recovery with One Data Drive After Drive Removal

Reinsert the drive and check the disk status storcli64 /cx/ex/sall show all If disk status is ubad, set disk status to good storcli64 /c0/ex/sx set good

Check disk status storcli64 /cx/ex/sx show Disk status is UGOOD -F

Import disk storcli64 /cx/fall import

Check disk status storcli64 /cx/ex/sx show Disk status is UGOOD -

Disk is in available state

1.8.3 Recovering Disk Availability from Damaged RAID

Unmount file system created on damaged RAID: umount ....

dmsetup remove /dev/p1/* (p1 is the storage pool name on the raid)
echo 1 > /sys/block/sdb/device/delete (sdb is the actual disk device name)

Delete damaged RAID: storcli64 /cx/vx del
