NetApp Hard Drive Failure Log Collection Commands
The following applies to ONTAP cluster command-line interfaces. First, collect read-only status to locate the faulty disk. This article uses the ONTAP 9.9.1 command reference; it cannot be used directly for 7-Mode. Before connecting to the terminal, open session logging and save commands and complete output as text.
Query Faulty Disks and Physical Location
storage disk show -broken
storage disk show -errors
storage disk show -fields disk,shelf,bay
-broken Displays failed disks and their causes; -errors Displays disk error types and handling suggestions; shelf / bay Used for corresponding disk shelves and bays. The absence of 'broken' output does not guarantee that all disks and links are normal; also cross-reference with error and event logs.
View Target Disk Details
Replace placeholders with the disk name returned by the previous set of commands:
storage disk show -disk <DISK_NAME> -instance
run * sysconfig -a and run * sysconfig -r belong to node-level supplementary information; collect per support engineer requirements. Do not treat names from node command output directly as cluster disk names.
Delivery and Handling Boundaries
Simultaneously specify the node, failure time, disk name, and shelf/bay. Retain original session output for verification. The above commands only query status and do not execute fail, remove, zero, or clear label operations. Actual replacement still requires verifying the faulty disk identity and official maintenance procedures for applicable models.
