IBM System x3650 Series Light Path Diagnostic Panel
The figure below shows the controls and indicators on the Light Path Diagnostic panel.

To operate the Light Path Diagnostic panel, slide the release latch above the Operator Information Panel to the left.
For more information about Light Path Diagnostics, see the Problem Determination and Service Guide in the IBM System x Documentation CD.
Indicators and Recommended Actions
The following table lists the indicators on the Light Path Diagnostic panel and the recommended actions to resolve detected problems.
- Perform the steps listed in the Action column in the order shown until the problem is resolved.
- To determine which components are Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs) and which are Field Replaceable Units (FRUs), see the corresponding sections in the Problem Determination and Service Guide.
- If a step is preceded by "(Trained service technician only)", that step must be performed by a trained service technician.
| Indicators | Description | Action |
|---|---|---|
| No indicators are lit except for the System Error indicator. | An error has occurred but cannot be diagnosed, or the Advanced Systems Management (ASM) processor on the Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine has failed. The Light Path Diagnostic indicators do not indicate this error. | Check the system error log for information about the error. |
| OVER SPEC | Power consumption exceeds their maximum rated power. |
|
| PS 1 | The power supply in Bay 1 has failed. |
|
| PS 2 | The power supply in Bay 2 has failed. |
|
| CPU | A microprocessor has failed. |
|
| VRM | An error has occurred on the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM). |
|
| CNFG | A hardware configuration error has occurred. |
|
| MEM | A memory error has occurred. | Replace the failed DIMM indicated by the lit indicator on the system board. |
| NMI | A machine check error has occurred. | Check the system error log for information about the error. |
| S ERR | Reserved. | |
| SP | The service processor has failed. |
|
| DASD | A hard disk drive error has occurred. |
|
| RAID | A RAID controller error has occurred. | For error information, check the system error log. |
| FAN | A fan has failed, is running too slowly, or has been removed. The TEMP indicator light may also be lit. | Replace the fan that has failed as indicated by the lit indicator lights on the fan. |
| TEMP | The system temperature has exceeded the threshold level. A failed fan can cause the TEMP indicator light to turn on. |
|
| BRD | An error has occurred on the system board. |
|
| PCI | An error has occurred on the PCI bus or on the system board. Additional indicator lights next to the failed PCI slot will light up. |

Other older model optical path indicator panels
Slide out the operator information panel to view the optical path indicator panel on the side of the operator information panel. The figure below shows the indicator lights on the optical path indicator panel.

- PS1 Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that Power Supply 1 has failed.
- PS2 Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that Power Supply 2 has failed.
- TEMP Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that the system temperature has exceeded the threshold level.
- Fan Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that a cooling fan or power supply fan has failed or is running too slowly. A failed fan can also cause the OVER TEMP indicator light to turn on.
- VRM Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that a VRM on the microprocessor tray has failed.
- CPU Indicator Light: When this indicator light is lit, it indicates that a microprocessor has failed.
- PCI Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates an error on a PCI bus.
- MEM Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates a memory error.
- DASD Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates a failure of a hot-plug hard disk drive.
- NR Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates that two power supplies are present but not redundant.
- NMI Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates an occurrence of a non-maskable interrupt (NMI).
- SP Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates that the service processor has encountered an error.
- EXP Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates a failure of a connected I/O expansion unit.
- LOG Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, you should review the event log or the Remote Supervisor Adapter II log for information about suboptimal conditions.
- OVER SPEC Indicator Light: When this indicator light is illuminated, it indicates that the demand for power exceeds the specified power supply capacity.
- REMIND Button: Pressing this button resets the system error indicators on the Operator Information Panel and places the server in reminder mode. In reminder mode, the fault is not cleared, but the system error indicators flash (once every 2 seconds) instead of remaining steadily illuminated; if another system error occurs, the system error indicators will remain steadily illuminated.
