IBM Common Spare Part Number (FRU / PN / FC) Query Methods
IBM Spare Part Number Selection: FC, FRU, PN
- FRU(Field Replacement Unit) and PN (Part Number):
FRU and PN numbers are generally used in after-sales service; the number seen in logs is usually the FRU number. Additionally, hardware labels typically display both FRU and PN numbers; we select the FRU number.
Due to differences in manufacturing locations and batches for hardware, a single spare part often has multiple interchangeable part numbers. For example, FRU 45W3869 also has three alternative numbers: 45W3867, 45W6591, and 45W9610.
- FC (Feather Code):
Generally used during ordering (pre-sales), consisting of 4 digits, such as 5701 or 280D. This type of FC number does not apply here.
